Castro Named To All-County Team

The 1940 Warriors of coach Joe "Barking" Kelly finished with a final season record of 1 win and 7 losses; 0-4 in South Sierra League play. Despite being out manned in terms of weight, as well as members, the Warriors played hard in every game. Tehachapi struggled on offense, scoring just 4 TD's in 8 games. The squad was composed of mostly freshmen and juniors.

Of historical significance, Tehachapi defeated Victor Valley High School for the first time in school history, 13-0. Wayne Warner scored the first TD of the season on an electrifying 63 yard interception return. Jesus Castro ran 6 yards for the second TD (Partin PAT kick).

Fullback Jesus Castro and wide receiver Mark Porter led the team by earning 1st team All-Sierra League honors. Halfback Leopold Ramos and center Clyde Kirkbride made the 2nd team team. Castro also received All-County honors on the Honorable Mention team.

Shafter High School won their 3rd consecutive South Sierra League Championship in 1940.
