Warriors Log First Winning Season!

For the first time since the football program began in 1930, Tehachapi finally had a winning season as the 1939 Warriors finished with a fine 6-2-1 overall season record.

Some season highlights include:

In Week 3, under the Friday night lights, the Warriors dropped a tough 13-6 game to the Taft JV's (Bobcats; sometimes called Lightweights).
Interesting to note the Warriors played the preliminary game to the Taft-Wasco varsity game, won by Taft, before 3,000 fans.

In what proved to be the championship game, the Warriors lost a rugged Week 6 game to the Shafter Generals, 7-0. With the win,
Shafter won the South Sierra League title for the second year in a row.

In Week 7, the Warriors traveled to Bakersfield to play at Griffith Field against the East High School Blades.
Tehachapi scored two touchdowns in the second half to upset the Blades, 13-0. Wayne Warner ran back a 53 yard TF for the first score;
and his brother Roy Warner ran in the second TD from 7 yards (Partin PAT kick).

In Week 8 against Lone Pine, Roy Warner scored 3 TD's to lead Tehachapi to an 18-0 shutout of the Golden Eagles.

In the season finale, the high school Warriors defeated the alumni Warriors 13-0. Roy Warner and QB John Valdez paced the younger Warriors scoring one TD apiece.

Tehachapi also had a great defense in 1939, allowing only 29 points.
