Mountain Football raced ahead to a quick two-touchdown lead in the first quarter, never looking back in a convincing 42-7 victory over North last Friday night in Bakersfield.

The Warriors’ defense was relentless on the night, forcing North (2-6; 1-2 SEYL) on a three-and-out on their first two series and six punts overall.

Skylar Valencia helped Tehachapi (6-2; 3-0 SEYL) capitalize, rushing for 199 yards on 20 carries and scoring five touchdowns in the rout. Valencia’s performance put him over the 1,000-yard rushing mark on the season, with his total currently at 1,075 yards on 148 carries through eight games.

Valencia scored on runs of 20, 63, 5, 48 and 17 yards and became the second Warrior running back this season to score five rushing touchdowns in one game. Christian Terle also had the five touchdown accomplishment in the SEYL opener against East earlier this month.

Valencia joins Terle on an elite list, joining Dustin McBride (2000 vs. Arvin) and Wilbur Griffin (1942 vs. Maricopa) as the only Warriors to have five rushing scores in one game.

Terle also ran strong for the Warrior offense, logging in 50 yards on 10 carries, while David Carter and Chris Rhodes combined for 30 yards on seven carries to help pace the wing-t attack. In the passing game, Valencia caught a pass for 13 yards and Dakota Medovitch hauled in a 12-yard reception from quarterback Chris Llamas.

Trent Reynolds provided the exclamation point on the evening midway through the fourth quarter, scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run. Reynolds finished with 41 yards on five carries.

On special teams, Rhodes had two kickoff returns for 21 combined yards and Victor Rodriguez was a perfect 6-6 on point after attempts.

Tehachapi will be home this week against Foothill, who lost 48-7 to Garces last Friday night. The game against the Trojans will start at 7:30 p.m.

BAKERSFIELD - Skylar Valencia rushed for 199 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a Southeast Yosemite League win.

After Tehachapi (6-2; 2-0 SEYL) forced the Stars into a three-and-out on their first two series of the game, Valencia scored on both ensuing Tehachapi possessions, reaching the 100-yard rushing mark before halftime.

He had TD runs of 20, 63, 5, 48 and 17 yards.
