The Lady Warriors concluded another storied chapter in their program history by reaching the section semifinals and winning a fifth-straight South Sequoia League title.

With a trip to the CIF championship to Fresno’s Selland Arena on the line, Tehachapi fell just short of going to the big game in a 52-38 loss to defending champion Yosemite. (Webmaster note: Yosemite lost to Hanford in the section finals at Selland Arena.)

Making the four hour trek to Oakhurst, Mountain Basketball showed little to no signs of rust against one of the valley’s premiere teams, winning the second quarter scoring battle 10-9 and only having a 22-20 halftime deficit, The outstanding defensive effort came against an opponent that was averaging 61 points a game.

The Badgers pulled away in the second half with a 30-18 scoring advantage to end the Lady Warriors’ season.

Jana Smith and Donna Crowley both finished with 14 points each and 13 and seven rebounds, respectively, while Ashley Asoau had eight points and Anita Pimentel had two points. Asoau had seven rebounds while Scarlett Dunn led Tehachapi with three assists.

Tehachapi (21-8) was coached this year by legendary coaching icons Dennis Ruggles and Bill Carll, who helped the program achieve a 20-win campaign and an SSL championship for the fifth straight season.
