Mountain Football got their first taste of opposition last week at Coy Burnett Field, participating in a controlled scrimmage with Taft and South-Bakersfield.

Tehachapi racked up 228 yards of total offense, connecting on four passes for 37 yards and rushing for 191 yards on 29 attempts.

Spearheading the run game was Chris Rhodes, who had 42 yards on the ground, highlighted by a 27 yard rumble down the left sideline
that ended with a highlight-reel decleating hit on a Taft defensive back at the two-yard line.

Anthony Powell also had 39 yards, Noah Whitlach 28 yards, Keyron Scott 28 yards, Willy Urciel 27 yards and Jerry Castaneda 24 yards on the ground.

In the passing game, Chris Llamas had two completions to Jake Walters for 13 yards and Paul Stephens had a 16 yard completion to Ethan Averett and another short yardage connection with Castaneda.

On defense, the Warriors gave up only two touchdowns, with the first score coming by way of a Taft quarterback keeper that was called back on a holding penalty. South also scored on a pass connection in the endzone on a wideout fade route near the end of the scrimmage. Thomas Blewett led the defense with three tackles and a sack while Angel Garcia also had three tackles.

Tehachapi will officially open up their season at home this Friday night against Foothill. The varsity contest will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Junior Varsity:

The Braves had an impressive showing in their scrimmage against Taft and South, scoring six touchdowns overall, including three touchdowns on their first series on offense.

Garrett Curry scored on a 25 yard touchdown run on just the second play of the first team series to set the tone early. Connor Timm and Taydin Macon also had touchdown runs of 5 and 15 yards, respectively.

Paul Stephens had a pair of throwing connections to Cameron Walsh of 28 and 30 yards, while Tyler Metzler and Macon also had offensive touchdowns for Tehachapi late in the scrimmage.

Leading the defense was Walsh with four tackles, followed by Luke Soto with three tackles and a sack and Jackson Caudle with three tackles and a fumble recovery.
Cale Stephens also had an interception that would have resulted in a touchdown under a normal game scenario.
