Intersquad Scrimmage This Saturday Morning at Coy Burnett
The Warriors officially began their 83rd season of football this past week, opening up their pre-season with a two-a-day schedule at Tehachapi High School.
Tehachapi welcomed nearly 100 players on the varsity, jayvee and freshmen programs, marking the beginning of 2012 football.
This season will welcome in change for the Warriors with an upgrade to the prestigious yosemite league ranks. This league movement comes after Tehachapi was upgraded into the Division 2 playoff bracket before the start of the 2010 season to become one of the smallest schools in the division.
Another playoff re-alignment will occur this season, with Tehachapi staying in D-2. While the Warriors went under the radar on a possible division shift, six other teams will make a move. Four teams will be moving out and two teams moving into D-2, barring the outcome of any possible appeals by teams protesting their new divisional placement.
Clovis North (2011 CIF D-2 Champions) and Frontier-Bakersfield will be moving up to Division 1, while Madera and Tulare Western will move down to Division 3. Two teams will join Division 2 this season, with Division 3's Kingsburg bumped up to Division 2 while El Diamante-Visalia moves down from Division 1.
Division 2 teams for the 2012 season included Garces, Kingsburg, Tehachapi, San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno, Sunnyside-Fresno, Lemoore, Redwood-Visalia, Sanger, El Diamante-Visalia, Reedley-Fresno, Hoover-Fresno, Monache-Porterville, North-Bakersfield and West-Bakersfield.
Teams in the Southeast Yosemite League include Garces, Tehachapi, East, Highland, North and Foothill.
Tehachapi will get their season started this Saturday with an intersquad scrimmage starting at 7 a.m. at Coy Burnett Field.
