The 2010 Warrior varsity football team advanced to the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs Friday night after defeating the Taft Wildcats, 30-20, in the oil town. The Warriors earned a #6 seed and will host #11 West High-Bakersfield in the playoffs this Friday night at Coy Burnett Field.

The Warriors finished the regular season at 9-1, 5-0 in SSL play, earning the schools' eighth SSL crown since joining the league in 1992.

The Warriors are advancing to the valley playoffs for the 15th straight season under head coach Steve Denman. The Warriors won CIF Central Section Division III championships in 2007 and 2008, and advanced to the semi-finals in 2009.

But things have changed this year. Despite the objections of Tehachapi High, and presumably victims of their own success, the Warriors were moved up to Division II in 2010.

Earning the highest seeds in Division II were #1 Frontier-Bakersfield; #2 Garces; #3 Sunnyside-Fresno; and #4 Redwood-Visalia.

All first round playoff games begin Friday, November 19, at 7:00 pm.

West High finished the season with a 6-4 season record and were members of the South Yosemite League with league members Ridgeview, Golden Valley, Mira Monte, and South High. The green-and-gold clad Vikings finished in second place at 3-1, behind league champion Ridgeview. The Tehachapi-West High winner will meet the winner of the #3 Sunnyside - #14 seed Tulare Western game.

There are 14 teams in the Division II tournament, and the Warriors would have to win four straight games to win a DII championship. Both #1 Frontier and #2 Garces earned first round byes.

In the Division IV tournament, SSL runner-up Wasco earned a #4 seed and has a first round bye. Wasco will face Coalinga in the second round of play. The other SSL entry is #10 Bakersfield Christian who will play #7 Selma in first round action. The BCHS-Selma winner will play against Washington Union-Fresno.

In Division IV, the top seeds belong to #1 Dos Palos and #2 Washington Union. Both have first round byes.
