Frontier Routs The Warriors, 43-14

Posted September 19, 2009 by Tom Shea, The Bakersfield Californian

TEHACHAPI – Frontier exploded for 34 first half points against the Warriors and never looked back in a 43-14 drubbing on the mountain.

Fresh off their 68-0 win over Antelope Valley the week before, Frontier (2-0) went back to work by opening their second game of the season with a Jacob Adelman 10 yard fade pass to Josh Legoretta for a quick 7-0 lead.

On the Titans’ next defense series, Anthony Gary took an interception 38 yards to the endzone to help Frontier pull away.

The Warriors answered the second score with a 20-yard Chris Rush scoring strike to Travis Farewell, but the Titans were too much and too often, recording three unanswered touchdowns before halftime.

Frontier was able to show off their special teams in the game, with Deshaunte Webber scoring an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and kicker Matt Darr securing four touchbacks and a 32-yard field goal in the second half.

Rudy Valdivia led all runners with 81 yards on 15 carries, finishing the game with a 30-yard scoring jaunt on the Titan’s last touchdown.

Max Clark led the Tehachapi (2-1) ground attack with 74 yards rushing.

The Warriors impressive start to the season took a slight detour last Friday night, with the Frontier Titans coming to town and handing the Warriors their first loss of the season in a 43-14 defeat.

The Titans were opportunistic in all facets of the game, scoring on offense, defense and special teams against the Warriors, with starting field position deep in Tehachapi territory on three of four offensive possessions.

“We’re disappointed in the loss, but we realize that there is plenty of season ahead,” said head coach Steve Denman. “We will not lose our focus because of the outcome of this game. We need to get back to work in practice, learn from our mistakes and move forward.”

Tehachapi did actually match Frontier in first downs with eight, while also out gaining the Titans in the rushing column by a 150-125 edge.

Max Clark led Tehachapi in the ground game with 74 yards on 10 carries and Jesse Olofson took 15 attempts for 33 yards for the Warriors, including scoring the second touchdown of the night on a seven yard run.

Through the air, Chris Rush completed three passes for 29 yards, with Travis Farewell catching two passes for 26 yards, including a gutsy fourth-and-two, 20-yard touchdown reception halfway through the second quarter.

“Our team is fortunate to get the opportunity to play top-notch programs in the pre-season and that’s exactly what we got (last Friday night),” said Denman. “These tough games will help us prepare for our games ahead, particularly (this week) against Burroughs, who always plays us tough.”

Tehachapi will host Burroughs-Ridgecrest this Friday night at home with a 7:30 p.m. start time at Coy Burnett Field. The Burros defeated Highland-Palmdale 20-13 in week one, and lost to Apple Valley 29-26 last week.
