BAKERSFIELD -- Led by the heroics of sophomore quarterback Josh Legoreta and a clock-eating possession late in the fourth quarter, Frontier (2-0) recorded a thrilling 19-18 win over Tehachapi at Bakersfield High School.
With time winding down before halftime and down by two scores, the Titans swung the game momentum in their favor when Matt Darr orchestrated a punt fake pass to a wide-open Legoreta, who also punched in a one yard run for Frontier's first score.
On the ensuing Warrior offensive series, a fumble gave the Titans another opportunity deep in Tehachapi territory, and Legoreta took advantage with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Ian Driskill with 13 seconds before intermission.
Tehachapi (1-2) responded with a diving four yard touchdown from Garrett Coontz in the third, but the Titans would seal the win with a Joe Thomas one yard run to cap a 57 yard drive for the game's final score.
Legoreta sustained a leg injury on the Thomas touchdown run and did not return to the game. Backup quarterback Trevor Buskirk helped Frontier ice the contest with a six-minute drive to run out the clock and seal the win.
The Warriors Angelo Loli led all runners with 102 yards rushing.
