DINUBA -- Quarterback Nathaniel Lester led Dinuba to a 19-14 victory Friday night to advance to the next round of the CIF Central Section Division III playoffs. Dinuba (8-3), the #2 team from the East Sequoia League, will now face the South Sequoia League Champion Golden Valley Bulldogs next week in Bakersfield. Golden Valley (7-3; 4-1) had a first round bye.

Behind the running and passing of Lester, the Emperors jumped out to a 19-0 first half lead. Lester finished the game with 70 yards on 10 carries and was 12 for 22 passing for 166 yards. Lester's favorite target was junior Travis Felts with 7 receptions, 124 receiving yards, and two TD's.

With less than a minute to play in the first half, Tehachapi capitalized on a Dinuba muffed punt deep in Dinuba territory to set up their first touchdown of the night. After a series of plays, with time running out, Zach Schlais hauled in a pitch pass from QB Ehren Oschsenrider to go in for a 6 yard TD score.

In the third quarter, after a fumble recovery by Aaron Boileau, the Warriors Robert Wright broke loose to score on a 65 yard TD run to close the gap to 19-12. The Warriors went for 2 on the PAT and scored on a pass play to cut the lead to 19-14.

Late in the second half, Dinuba had a sustained drive that led to a 1st and 10 at the Warriors' 2 yard line. In perhaps their finest defensive stand of the year, the Warriors prevented the Emporers from getting into the end zone.

The Warriors then responded with their own sustained drive, by marching down the field to the Dinuba 9 yard line, with just over 6:00 minutes to go in the game. On a key 4th down play, quarterback Oschsenrider was sacked by a Dinuba defender to end the Warriors last serious scoring threat of the night.

Wright, a senior, led the Warriors running attack picking up 136 yards on 12 carries.

The Warriors played inspired football throughout the game, but ended their tough 2005 grid campaign at 4-7. This was the first losing season for the Warriors since 1995.

Warrior sophomore Quarterback Ehren Ochsenrider #13 was on the run all night long trying to elude an aggressive Dinuba defense. Ehren connected on 3 of 10 passes in the game for 55 yards.
