Compton and Tehachapi met for the first time on the gridiron in 2005. Compton, under head coach Calvin Bryant, won the game 21-14 in Tehachapi.
Compton, with a student enrollment of 2,600 students, is in the Moore League in the CIF Southern Section. The Moore League consists of seven schools including perennial league power Long Beach Poly. The other league schools include Cabrillo-Long Beach, Jordan-Long Beach, Wilson-Long Beach, Millikan-Long Beach, and Lakewood High.
Compton High School is one of two high schools in Compton, the other high school is Dominguez High School. The school first opened in 1927 as Compton Community College and then later re-established as Compton Union High School in the 1950s after the new community college campus opened in 1953.
