BAKERSFIELD - This was Bakersfield Christian's first year in the SSL and they lost their final league game in a barn burner against the Tehachapi Warriors 52-38. "We were lucky enough to get some big plays," said Steve Denman, Tehachapi's head coach.

Bakersfield Christian's Phil Owens had a stellar game throwing for 329 yards, completing two touchdown passes and rushing for two more.

The Eagles opened up with a 74-yard drive with spectacular catches by Jake Peterson that ended with a Phil Owens quarterback sneak to put up the first score of the game.

Tehachapi answered back, as they would do all night, by breaking up the middle for long gains.

The second quarter opened up with a 90 yard touchdown scamper up the middle for Tehachapi's Louis James.

Bakersfield Christian looked like they would put another drive together, but Josh Schulgen of Tehachapi stepped into the passing lane and picked off Owens' pass. His team was unable to move the sticks and a botched punt put the Eagles right back into scoring position. They called a time-out on fourth down and came out of the huddle with a swing pass to the left. A pass interference call on that play by the Warriors gave them a first and goal, setting up Bryce Stevens for a 6-yard touchdown run. With three seconds left in the half the Warrior's answered back after a long bomb from Owen's bounces out of his player's hands and is intercepted by Stefan Bekker making the score 22-17 Tehachapi.
