Anthony Paces Warriors in 45'

The story of the 1944-45 varsity Warriors was a team depleted in male athletes due to the war and a schedule that featured
all "away" games because the school had no gymnasium.

Warrior scoring sensation Ray Castro, primed for his senior season, was now in the US Navy, along with former teammate
Jerome Warner. Both players had been expected to shine for the Warriors in 1944-45.

To make matters worse, the school gymnasium had burned to the ground in February 1944 and coach Henry Kossow worked very hard
to develop a schedule of games for 1945. The basketball teams practiced outdoors on converted tennis courts, and practiced indoors
twice a week in nearby Mojave. Transportation was also a challenge
due to the lack of gasoline during this time of World War II.

Despite the challenges, the Warriors won four games and lost three for the season, again playing an abbreviated
schedule for the third straight year.

Tony Anthony led the team in scoring with 48 total points; freshman Fred Castro had 42 points; and Frank Barrera had 34 points.
