The Warriors girls varsity basketball team seems to be set up nicely for the start of its South Yosemite League campaign.

The Warriors go into league play this week off three straight victories, including two big road wins last week – 55-54 at Taft and 72-32 at Rosamond.

Asked how he judged his team's prospects in league, head coach Jacques Vachon said, “It's a tough call. They have the skills, capabilities and motivation to win.

“If I can channel those elements correctly, they will do well.”

The Warriors held Rosamond to single digits in scoring in three of four quarters on Friday, Jan. 8, as Fiona Ferry scored a game-high 26 points. The victory improved Tehachapi's record to 10-6.

Angie Kroeger added 15 points against Rosamond as every player on the Tehachapi roster scored at least 2 points. Kelly Corpus dominated the boards with eight rebounds.

On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the Warriors eked out the 1-point victory over Taft with a furious fourth-quarter rally. Tehachapi outscored Taft 21-10 in the fourth quarter after trailing 44-34 at the end of the three quarters.

Kroeger had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Ferry had 18 points, and Alicia Johnson had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors play their first SYL game on Thursday, Jan. 14, at home against Independence.
