It was a highly competitive and down to the wire CIF playoff quarterfinal between No. 4 seed Tehachapi and No. 5 seed Shafter last Friday night. In the end, the Lady Generals edged out a 45-41 victory to advance to the semifinals and end the Lady Warriors season.

Alyssa Garcia came back from a two-week injury to spark the bench for Tehachapi (21-8), finishing her final game as a Warrior with seven point and six steals. Kelsey Vance also nearly had a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds, along with a trio of blocks, assists and steals.

Garcia had five straight points in the second quarter to help the Warriors go up 20-14, helping to close out the first half with a 23-17 lead. After the break, Shafter made their run, outscoring Mountain Basketball 7-0 to open up the quarter and retake the lead, 24-23.

The game went back-and-forth the rest of the way, with both teams accounting for six lead changes. With the game tied 41-41 with less than 30 seconds remaining, Shafter registered a bucket to go up for good and record the playoff upset.

Other leaders for the Lady Warriors in the game included Dani Peacon with eight points and six rebounds, Brooke Boyd with six points and four rebounds and Daisy Moran with eight rebounds and six points. Angie Kroeger also had eight rebounds, Brandi Davidson had four rebounds and Laney Ricker had four points.

Earlier in the week, Tehachapi advanced in the playoffs with a first round playoff win over Arvin, 52-47.

Boyd was the leader in the contest with 15 points and nine rebounds, followed by Peacon with 10 points, Vance with 13 rebounds and seven points and Davidson with 12 rebounds and seven points.

Leja Jakstaite also had six rebounds and four points, Shelby Ricker had four rebounds and three points and Moran, Kroeger and Laney Ricker each had two points.

With the season concluded, Tehachapi salutes their departing seniors Alyssa Garcia, Laney Ricker, Kelsey Vance, Noemi Lorenz, Kayla Trevino and Lexi Garrett.
