Warriors Take Out North & Highland

After suffering a pair of league defeats the previous week against Garces and East, the Warriors wasted no time in getting back on the winning track with a 71-52 victory over North and a 73-64 win over Highland.

Isaiah Johnson had a game-high 30 points, including four three pointers, in the victory over North. Jonny Saavedra also chipped in with 16 points and Dakota Medovitch and Micah Fjeld each had 12 points.

Against Highland, Johnson was the leading scorer with 23 points, followed by Chris Llamas with 15 points and Saavedra with 13 points. Medovitch also had nine points and Fjeld seven points in the hard-earned victory.

The Warriors will have their regular season finale this Thursday night at home against Garces, starting at 6:30 p.m. The Warriors will also be participating in the CIF Division III playoffs next week, with a home game anticipated for this upcoming Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The playoff game will start at 7 p.m. and the opponent will be determined this weekend at the CIF seeding selection meeting in Porterville.

Junior Varsity and Freshmen:

The Braves (2-6 SEYL) split the week by defeating North 46-40 and losing to Highland, 48-40.

Jesus Sanchez led the victory over North with 10 points, followed by Daniel Viselli with eight points and Bryan Cotta and Jacob Gonzales with six points each. Carson Bethany and Ryan Kelly both had five and four points, respectively in the win.

Against Highland, Bethany led all scorers with 11 points, and Kelly had 10 points in the defeat.

In freshmen basketball, the Indians (5-3 SEYL) defeated North 47-37 and Highland 56-48 last week.

Philippe Vachon went a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line in the victory over North, with David Wheeler scoring the most points in the game with 11 and Paul Stephens also contributing with 10 points.

In the win over Highland, Israel Guerrero had 21 points, followed by Wheeler with 19 points and Gus Marantos with 11 points.

Ladies Basketball Runs Past North

The Lady Warriors avenged their first league meeting loss against North by turning the tables this past week in Bakersfield, running away with a 60-42 victory.

Tehachapi (19-6; 6-2 SEYL) looked in command from the get-go, opening up a 30-14 lead by halftime to put the game away early.

Dani Peacon led Mountain Basketball with 18 points (a season high), five assists and four steals, while Alyssa Garcia had 17 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists.

Also performing well was Leja Jakstaite with 14 rebounds and seven points, Brooke Boyd with six points and five rebounds, Shelby Ricker with five points, and Laney Ricker with three points and three steals.

Earlier in the week, Tehachapi also easily dispatched Highland 52-38 behind 14 points, four steals and three assists from Garcia.

Laney Ricker also had a strong game with 10 points and five rebounds and Daisy Moran had seven point and five rebounds. Other leaders included Boyd with seven rebounds and six points, Brandi Davidson with five rebounds and four points, and Peacon with six assists.

Tehachapi will have their regular season finale this Thursday night in Bakersfield against Garces before starting the CIF Central Section Division III playoffs next week.
The game against Garces will start at 6:30 p.m.
