Takes 3rd Place At Arvin

The Lady Warriors closed the Arvin Holiday Showcase with a victory over Chavez-Delano 44-37, an overtime loss in the semifinals against Burroughs-Ridgecrest, 43-35, and capping the tournament with a 46-34 win over McFarland for third place honors.

Tehachapi (10-4) snapped Chavez's undefeated record with the victory, led by Alyssa Garcia logging 12 points and four steals, Dani Peacon with 11 points and Brooke Boyd with five points and nine rebounds. Other contributors in the win was Brandi Davidson with five points and four rebounds, Daisy Moran with four points and six rebounds, Shelby Ricker with three points and four steals and Leja Jakstaite with four points and three rebounds.

Mountain Basketball nearly matched Burroughs point-for-point in the semis, nearly avenging a 50-26 loss to the Burros in a pre-season meeting back in early December.

Garcia led Tehachapi with 14 points, six steals, five rebounds and four assists, while Peacon had seven points and three assists against the Burros.

Kelsey Vance and Jakstaite had seven and six rebounds, respectively, with Jakstaite also recording three blocks. Other standout performances included Davidson with five rebounds and Shelby Ricker with five points.

In the third place game against McFarland, Vance led the team in scoring with 10 points, while adding six rebounds. Garcia nearly had a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds and Laney Ricker had eight points. Other standouts included Jakstaite with five points and seven rebounds, Laney Ricker had eight points, and Peacon had six points and three rebounds. Boyd also had five rebounds and Moran had three rebounds to round out other solid efforts.

In previous tournament games, Tehachapi defeated Kennedy-Delano (45-19) and East-Bakersfield (51-16).

Garcia and Peacon were named to the all-tournament team after guiding Tehachapi to a 4-1 record overall.

Up next for Tehachapi is a non-league game against California City at home next Tuesday, Jan. 7. The varsity game will start at 6 p.m.
