Tehachapi High School Seniors Lauren Shacklock (volleyball) and Katie Avila (basketball) recently signed letters of intent to play their respective sports for NCAA Division IA programs, with Shacklock electing to join Sarah Warner at Cal State Bakersfield while Avila signing with Cal State Fullerton.

Shacklock, a four-year varsity player for Tehachapi, finished her junior and senior seasons with 707 kills and 485 blocked shots, which was good for the team lead both years. Last season, Shacklock led Tehachapi to the CIF Division III Section Finals and an SSL championship.

Katie Avila is coming into her senior season for the Warriors, and is a two-time All-SSL and reigning All-Area selection. Last season, Avila led Tehachapi to their third-straight SSL championship, finishing her third season on varsity with 1,289 points scored combined all three years.

Cal State Bakersfield is beginning their first year full year as Division IA status next year, while Cal State Fullerton finished the 2005-2006 season 11-17 (7-7 BWC) in the Big West Conference.
