Lady Warriors Dominate Mira Monte

Alyssa Garcia and Danielle Simpson combined for 25 points to help the Lady Warriors coast to a 60-37 victory over Mira Monte last Monday night at home.

Tehachapi (8-3) had a 30-15 lead at halftime and 54-25 lead through the third quarter to put the game away early.

Other leaders in the win included Dani Peacon with nine points and five assists, Rheanna Cowee with eight points and 12 rebounds and Madison Frey with six points and 15 rebounds.

Earlier this month, the Lady Warriors also had a pair of defeats to close out the Shafter tournament, losing to Liberty 48-40 and Lindsay 42-38. Despite the loss, the Lady Warriors earned runner-up honors in the tournament and Cowee and Peacon were named to the all-tournament team.

Tehachapi was participating in the Arvin Tournament this past weekend, with early round victories over Wasco 36-18, West 39-33 and Arvin 55-34 to reach the tournament semifinals.

Mountain Basketball nearly registered an upset win in Bakersfield last Monday night before falling by one point to Mira Monte, 63-62. However, the Warriors took advantage of another opportunity in tournament play later in the week, defeating the Lions in a thrilling 48-47 win.

In the first game loss against Mira Monte, Isaiah Johnson led the team in scoring with 14 points, followed Caleab Roney with 12 points and Dalton Scaggs with 11 points.

The Warriors also had a combined 25 points from Jonny Saavedra, Ryan Flick, Andrew Baquerizo, Nathan Hedberg and Micah Fjeld.

Later in the week in the Shafter Kiwanis Tournament, Tehachapi took early round victories over Arvin, 50-34 and Mira Monte 48-47.

Tehachapi blew the Arvin game open in the second quarter with a 20-4 scoring advantage, eventually cruising to the 16 point win.

Scaggs led the team over Arvin with nine points, followed by Johnson with eight points and Flick with seven points.

Steven Cross, Dakota Medovitch, Andrew Borst, Saavedra, Llamas and Fjeld combined to add 26 points in the victory.

In the tournament win over Mira Monte, Johnson led the team with 16 points, followed by Roney with 10 points and Flick with seven points.

Mountain Basketball also had an early round game in the Shafter Kiwanis Tournament against Stockdale, falling to the Mustangs 78-37 behind a team high 10 points from Saavedra. Full highlights of the Shafter Tournament will be available next week.

Earlier in the month, Tehachapi also won their final game in the Lloyd Williams Shootout over Highland, 65-53.
