It's March Madness time! The 2011-12 regular season has come to an end and now both Warrior varsity teams are advancing to the post-season playoffs with dreams of reaching the championship game in Fresno at the Selland Arena the weekend of March 2-3.

Boys Basketball Hosts Highland-Bakersfield

Round One in the playoffs will find the #7 seeded Warriors hosting #10 Highland of Bakersfield on Tuesday night, March 21. Game time is 7:00 pm.

For Tehachapi, a senior heavy team with a lot of playoff experience, the Warriors will focus their game around scoring sensation Cory Lange. Lange will be looking for scoring and rebounding assistance from Justin Hedberg, Darren Smith, Tyler Beardsley, and Ryan Harris.

Tehachapi finished the season with an overall record of 17-8, 9-1 in SSL play to claim the league title. Highland, a member of the Southeast Yosemite League, finished at 14-12, 3-5 in league play. Highland finished behind champion East Bakersfield and second place Garces. The Warriors will join the Southeast Yosemite League next school year.

Highland has been led this season by #22 senior Caleb Richmond.

The winner of the Tehachapi-Highland game will face the winner of the Independence-South Bakersfield game Thursday night on the home court of the highest seeded team. Independence is the #2 seed in the sixteen team Division III bracket with a 16-10 overall record, and a 6-4 record in the rugged Southwest Yosemite League. Independence finished behind Liberty and Bakersfield High in league play. South is seeded #15 in the tournament, making Independence the heavy favorite.

Girl's Basketball Travels To Tulare Union For Playoff Game

The #9 seeded Lady Warriors will be on the road Wednesday evening (Feb. 22) traveling to Tulare to take on the red and gold clad Lady Redskins. Tulare Union was seeded #8 in the tournament bracketing, which features 17 teams in Division III.

The Lady Warriors, 18-6 for the season, and 8-2 in SSL play, have been led all season by their leading scorer and rebounder senior Paige Bennett. Bennett is looking for scoring assistance from Alyssa Garcia and rebounding help from AJ Snider.

Tulare Union, 20-8 for the season, finished 12-4 in East Yosemite League play behind champion Monache-Porterville and runner-up Tulare Western. The Lady Redskins have been led by a trio of girls all averaging over 10 points per game. Unique Vernon averages 15.5 ppg; Karishma Bhakta is at 15.1 ppg; and Nachelle Terry is good for 11.6 ppg. Terry also leads the team in rebounding.

The winner of the Tehachapi-Tulare Union contest will probably match up against #1 seeded Ridgeview-Bakersfield. Ridgeview will play the winner of the Kingsburg-McLane game in their first round game.
