Warriors Cagers Remain Undefeated

After a seesaw battle in the first half, the Warriors took control of the game in third and fourth quarters to cruise to a 77-58 win at home over Wasco last week.

Mountain Basketball outscored the Tigers 48-31 in the second half to ice the win, led by a balanced scoring attack from Cory Lange with 28 points, Justin Hedberg with 18 points and Darren Smith with 16 points.

Lange also got the crowd fired up at the end of the third quarter, with a buzzer-beating three pointer from nearly the full length of the court.

Other scoring leaders included Luke Henderson with seven points, including a game opening three-pointer, Tyler Beardsley with six points and Gabe Saavedra with two points.

With the win, Tehachapi (14-7; 6-0 SSL) remains undefeated in league play with Shafter keeping close pace with the Warriors with a 14-5 (5-1 SSL) record.

The Warriors will take on Shafter on the road this Friday night with South Sequoia League title implications on the line. With the win, Mountain Basketball could clinch at least a share of the league crown.


Lady Warriors Defeat The Tigers

The Lady Warriors scored a season-high in points last Friday night, breezing to a 68-27 victory over Wasco at home.

Due to CIF central section regulations, the game went to a running clock with four minutes left in the fourth quarter due to the Lady Warriors having a 40 point lead in the contest.

Paige Bennett led Mountain Basketball with a double-double, scoring 22 points and recording 10 steals, while also adding eight rebounds and five assists.

Other leaders included AJ Snider with 12 points and nine rebounds and Alyssa Garcia with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Meagan Kilchrist also had a strong game with seven points and five steals while Briana Gutierrez had two three-pointers in a seven point effort. Sarah Breen, Danielle Simpson and Rheanna Cowee combined for eight points to round out the standout performances.

Tehachapi (15-5; 5-1 SSL) will have a big match-up this Friday night at Shafter for a chance to clinch a share of the league title lead. The undefeated Lady Generals are the only team that has defeated Mountain Basketball in league play this season.

The game at Shafter will begin at 6:30 p.m.
