Warriors Take 3rd Place
In Annual Shafter Tournament

The Tehachapi Warriors took 3rd place honors in the recent Shafter Tournament, topping Golden Valley-Bakersfield 71-54 on Saturday, December 17, in their tournament finale. The Warriors were 3-1 in the tournament, improving their overall season record to 7-7.

Seniors Cory Lange (6'2") and Justin Hedberg (6'4") were both selected to the all-tournament team for their outstanding play throughout the tournament.

The wards of head coach Chris Olofson began the tournament by ripping host Shafter, 65-49, on Wednesday, December 14. Leading scorers were Lange with 19, Ryan Harris 17, Zach Poulson 9, Dee White 6, Hunter Carroll 5, Tyler Beardsley 4, Cody Hall 2, Dalton Scaggs 2, and Luke Henderson 1.

In round two on Thursday, Tehachapi blasted South Bakersfield, 62-46. Lange once again led the Warriors with 21 points; other scorers included Hedberg 15, Henderson 9, Poulson 7, Beardsley 6, and Hall 4.

In the semi-finals on Friday, the Warriors were upset by upstart Rosamond, 66-41. The Warriors were leading at halftime by a 31 to 24 margin, but went cold in the second half. Rosamond eventually won the tournament by defeating Mira Monte-Bakersfield in the finals, 52 to 35.

For 3rd place on Saturday, Tehachapi defeated Golden Valley 71-54. Lange scored 22 followed by Gabe Saavedra 11, Hedberg 10, Henderson 7, Beardsley 7, Smith 4, Scaggs 4, Carroll 3, and White 2.

Besides Lange and Hedberg, the all-tournament team also included MVP Gary Lux of Rosamond; Darnell Sams, Golden Valley; Trevor Trimble, Mira Monte; Ryan McQuennie, Mira Monte; Nader Nassir, Rosamond; and Cyrus Parsons, Shafter.
