Lady Warriors Capture DIL Championship
For 3rd Straight Year
The 1982-83 Lady Warriors won the Desert-Inyo league championship for the third consecutive year, finishing 8-2 in league play, and 15-6 overall. The team was led by veteran Warrior coach Bill Carll, who switched over from the boys basketball program to the girls program.
The Lady Warriors had a small roster of ten players, but were a veteran team, featuring eight seniors and two juniors. The Lady Warriors had a good pre-league record of 5 wins and 2 losses, including a 2nd place finish at the annual Rosamond Invitational Tournament. In the tournament, the Warriors defeated Silver Valley (Yermo) and Boron, enroute to the championship game. In the finals, the Warriors lost to McFarland, 54-38. Both Gayle Nobles and Krista Oberg were selected to the All-Tournament team.
Sparked throughout the season by Nobles, Oberg, Estella Gaeta, and Dianne O'Neal, the Lady Warriors won the league title outright with an 8-2 record.
In post-season CIF play, the Lady Warriors crushed Kern Valley, 47-18, behind a 14 point performance by Nobles. In a second round game on the mountain, the season came to an end against a superior Temple City team, 58-43. Temple City entered the game with a 20-3 season record.
