Thurman Leads Lady Warriors
To First Championship In Ten Years

Under first year coach Jimi Perkins, the 2018-19 Lady Warriors captured a share of the South Yosemite League crown alomg with
West Bakersfield and Bakersfield Christian. All three schools finished with 7-3 records. For the Lady Warriors,
it was their first championship season since 2009-10 and only the twelfth league championship in school history.

The Warriors went 13-3 in the pre-league; 7-3 in SYL play; and 3-2 in the post-season playoffs for an overal 23-8 record.
The 23 wins ties the school record for the most wins in one season.

Throughout the season the Lady Warriors were led by their superstar Teagan Thurman, a 6'1" junior, that can play any position on the floor on offense.
Thurman led the Lady Warriors in both scoring and rebounding. On offense she led the team with 552 points scored for a solid 17.8 points per game average.
The 552 point total is the second highest single season scoring total in school history --- second only to Katie Avila (559 points) in 2005-06.

The Lady Warriors had four non-league wins in November and December defeating Kennedy; Centennial; Highland; and Frontier.
Tehachapi also participated in four tournamnets placing 2nd in the annual Centennial Tournament with a 3-1 record; 2-2 in the East High-Bakersfield Tournament;
and 4-0 in the annual Arvin Tournament winning the championship.

Tehachapi, the pre-season favorite to win the SYL, put themselves in a deep hole dropping their first two league games against defending league
champion Independence and Bakersfield Christian. The Lady Warriors reversed that trend however, and won seven straight league games --- with
Thurman scoring a season high 27 points --- in games against Golden Valley and Ridgeview. That set up a big showdown with West High
for first place. A Tehachapi win would give the mountain school a sole league championship. West had other ideas though, and beat Tehachapi on the mountain
to create a three way tie for first place.

In the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs, the Lady Warriors were seeded 4th in the 16 team bracket. Tehachapi ripped
Santa Maria, 55-20, and then crushed #5 seed Hanford, 58-49, on the hometown court. In the semi-finals, #1 seed
and defending CIF champion Bakersfield High knocked the Warriors out of the section playoffs.

Tehachapi then received an invitation to participate in the Southern California State playoffs. The Lady Warriors made history by
both hosting and winning their first State playoff game with an exciting 55-49 victory over Hillcrest of Riverside. Unfortunately the
Lady Warriors lost in the second round to powerhouse Oak Park.

Thurman earned the prestigious All-Area 1st Team honors while Mady Cotta and Irey Sandholdt were on the Honorable Mention Team.
Thurman was also The Player of the Year in the South Yosemite League while teammates Cotta and Sandholdt were All-SYL 2nd team selections.
Thurman was also the Team MVP as selected by the coaching staff.
