Head Coach Bernie Hill

Head Coach Bernie Hill, 32 years old in 1956, was a graduate of Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. Coach Hill led the 1956-57 Warriors to an overall 16-4 record. Like the football team, the Warriors were an independent school in 1956-57 with no formal affiliation with any league. The Warriors would jump from the CIF Central Section to the Southern Section the following season. The 16 win season established a school record for the most wins in one season. Tehachapi, playing without four starters, lost in the first round of the San Joaquin Valley Sierra Division playoffs to Strathmore.

Prior to Tehachapi, Hill was a teacher at Philomath, Oregon and Glide, Oregon.

Coach Hill and wife Donna, also a teacher at Tehachapi High School (Girls PE), spent the 1956-57 school year in Tehachapi before the couple moved to the Los Angeles area to continue their respective teaching and coaching careers. Hill went to work for Bonita High School in LaVerne, CA. while his wife accepted a teaching position at nearby Upland High School.

Hill was raised in Brownsville, Oregon and was also a World War II veteran.
