Big 1st Half Sinks Arvin
Warriors Score 30 Points By Halftime

The Warriors offense and defense was running to perfection for three quarters but had to hold off a late Arvin surge in the final period to secure a 37-27 road win.

Marcus Curiel scored Tehachapi's first three touchdowns and finished the night with 140 yards rushing, while Wyatt Vance had the final touchdown of the evening in the third quarter, closing out the game with 44 yards on the ground. Vance also had an 18 yard reception.

Tehachapi (6-1; 2-0 SSL) all-but decided the game at halftime, building a 30-7 lead after Cory Lange blocked a punt for a safety and caught a 30 yard touchdown pass from Bobby Howell.

Brian Castaneda and Christian Terle also combined for 55 yards rushing in the second half in the league victory, while Dalton Scaggs was a perfect 5-5 on extra point attempts.

On defense, Jack Blewett and David Lara had interceptions.

In other SSL games, Wasco defeated Taft 47-6 to remain the league's only other unbeaten team. Bakersfield Christian also had a 34-0 win against Shafter.

Tehachapi Holds Off Arvin, 37-27

ARVIN -- Marcus Curiel scored three touchdowns and rushed for 140 yards as Tehachapi held off Arvin for a 37-27 South Sequoia League victory.

Cory Lange blocked a punt for a safety and hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Bobby Howell to help the Warriors (6-1, 2-0 SSL) build a 30-7 halftime lead.

Tehachapi went into cruise control when Wyatt Vance scored on a 4-yard run to make the scored 37-14 at the end of the third quarter.

The Bears (1-6, 1-1) mounted a comeback in the second half when Orlando Perez scored on a 1-yard run and Jordan Wood found Tyler Karr and Sergio Magana on fourth-quarter scoring strike to pull within 10 points with two minutes remaining.


Wasco 47, Taft 6

WASCO -- Mike Martinez ran 15 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns, and Austin Tijerina had 11 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead the Tigers (7-0, 2-0 South Sequoia League) past the Wildcats (1-5, 0-2).

Darius Moore added 13 carries for 86 yards for the Tigers, who limited the Wildcats to 150 yards of total offense.

Tijerina got all his yardage in the first half. Wasco freshman running back Isiah Sharp ran 9 times for 77 yards.


Bakersfield Christian 34, Shafter 0

SHAFTER -- Donald Harris ran scores of 60 and 10 yards, and caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Ricky Sottile for the Eagles (4-2, 1-1 SSL). Sottile also scored on a 30-yard run in the third quarter. Matt Smith ran 5 yards for BCHS' other score. The Eagles recorded eight sacks, but also fumbled twice inside the Generals' 10-yard line. Shafter fell to 2-5, 0-2.
