Jilted

I focus on a sapphire dot
in the mirror that hangs over the bar,
witness to these slick skinned
minutes, in which I sit,
waiting for a lover
who never arrives.

The other dreamers stretch
their lean necks, birdlike.
I am a silver fish,
in this silence that spits.
A backtracking trail
in smokey mirror-shine.
