Quion Point

Produced by the Otago University Dive Club

Access: Car access through farm paddock. Ask permission at the farmhouse where the road appears to turn into a farm track. Be aware that this area gets very wet underfoot after any sort of rain.

Weather / Sea conditions: Exposed to south, north and east.

Visibility: Expect around 5 metres in good conditions, more during a nor'wester.

Description: Quion Point is 50 km south of Dunedin, past Taieri Mouth and Akatore Creek on the coast road. The diving is on a shallow volcanic reef, complete with all the fish and plant life you would expect on such a dive. Be aware that there are a number of sea lions that hang around the point itself and can get territorial. Allow plenty of distance to avoid annoying them.

Depth: No more than 12 metres
