Statistics On-Line
- Read each lesson carefully in your textbook.
- Complete the Comprehension Checks in each chapter carefully, even those which appear to ask silly questions. Some of the questions ARE silly, but they enable you to check whether you've understood the reading. Answers for the Comprehension Checks are found at the end of the each chapter.
- Refer to the notes on this web site as needed, either as you read the chapter or when you've finished.
- Answer the Review Exercises at the end of each chapter. Answers for these are provided in Appendix C of the textbook, which begins on page 419.
- When you've finished this work, e-mail the professor for a worksheet. Complete the worksheet; then check your answers. This worksheet is for your use in studying; it does not have to be turned in to the professor.
- When you feel ready to take a test, e-mail the professor for the exam. It will be sent in an e-mail as an attachment. High school students may request a test from the course administrator at your high school. Carefully follow the directions for each test.
- You will be able to keep a running total of your points in the course as each test is graded. Using the grading scale in the course syllabus will enable you to track your progress at all times.
- DO NOT put things off. Statistics cannot be effectively learned when crammed into a short time period or when long gaps occur between the completion of one lesson and completion of the next. Steady progress is best.
- E-mail your professor as soon as you experience difficulty that you can’t clear up in a day or so with intensive study. Generally, these sorts of difficulties do not go away by themselves, but get worse with time. Clear them up before they get bigger!
- It is realistic to expect to complete this course within a summer of daily effort. The correct time period is the one which permits you to experience success. Work submitted will generally be returned graded within 2-3 working days.
