A Trip to the Kern River Valley, June 2001

This is a view of the Needles, as seen from atop Dome Rock, in the Sequoia National Forest. Farther in the distance on the right side of the picture, is Mount Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 states. It touches the sky at 14,494 feet above sea level. This picture is taken from the Great Western Divide, the center point of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
