What
is
A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota?
Our
organization serves to:
Act as a watchdog to warn members against adverse motorcycle legislation and to promote favorable legislation for motorcyclists at local, state and federal levels.
Improve road conditions, thus making roads safer for motorcyclists
Help prevent accidents through rider awareness and education.
Discourage motorcycle thefts.
Promote political involvement of motorcyclists.
Act as a liaison between motorcyclists and government authorities.
Present and promote a better public image of motorcyclists.
That
sounds impressive, but how are these things accomplished?
A.B.A.T.E.
of SOUTH DAKOTA is organized into local chapters that have been organized by
motorcyclists, like you, to promote a positive image of motorcycling. This is
accomplished through local, civil charitable and benevolent causes, pooling of
resources for the common benefit of members, and promoting political awareness.
A.B.A.T.E. is in Pierre to monitor legislation and testify in your behalf during
Senate and House hearings. A.B.A.T.E.collects, processes, and exchanges
information that may concern you or substantiate
our views. This information is placed in your hands through a monthly newsletter.

What
else does A.B.A.T.E. have to offer me?
A.B.A.T.E. offers it’s members the local chapter involvement, an organization newsletter, a membership card, discounts on goods and services through supporting businesses, and an annual social hour during
the Sturgis Rally. We are continually trying to enhance and expand membership benefits
Sounds
pretty good so far. How do I join? Do I have to have to prospect?
NO!
A.B.A.T.E. IS NOT A CLUB!!
A.B.A.T.E.
is an organization designed for all riders. You pay a yearly membership fee and
get as much out to the organization as you put into it. There are no mandatory
obligations. Brotherhood is something personal, earned between people; you
cannot buy brotherhood with your membership. You may find brothers through
A.B.A.T.E., however not every member will be your brother. A.B.A.T.E. chapters
provide the means for independent riders to come together for a common cause, to
exchange ideas and have fun with other area motorcyclists. Chapters and chapter
members provide the support organizational goals and responsibilities and help
the membership in general.needed to meet
activities.
Still
sounds like a good deal, but where does my money go?
Your
membership dues are divided between chapter, state and IMPAC. $5 stays in the
chapter, $5 to IMPAC and the balance to the state for administration and
newsletter printing, publication and postage. If the need arises, state funds
could and would be transferred to IMPAC for legislative activities.
IMPAC
