 THE SOUND OF FAILURE
news

10/2/04

no news is always bad news...now it's dark.
a year ago, we were living the high life. we practiced in my house in south philadelphia. we got good shows, we had a record coming out, cash was rolling in...those were times of promise. a year later, no shows booked, living in the dead northeast, $2000 in the hole,(mostly van repairs & "undisclosed expendatures") van still not working, writing this while sitting on a box of unsold LPs, we have finally had to face the inevitable truth:
the train has jumped the track, but a decent sized frieght train will slide on for miles and miles after derailing before it finally grinds to a halt. it was pretty much over sometime in january of 2004, right after we had driven 400 miles to play and not get paid for the third show in a row. that was pretty much the theme for that whole tour. so when we got home, we took some time off, and we talked alot about trying to get outside help with booking, and even promo stuff... but the sad fact was that the time when we had any opportunities to "move on up" (not to mention the energy to persue such things) had long passed. so our sordid tale ends in a shitstorm of debt, bad blood, and missed opportunities. alot of people have helped us over the years, and to them we extend our sincere thanks and friendship. you know who you are, and we'll see you around. alot of other people have fucked us over pretty royally and talked alot of shit about us. to those people we extend our collective middle finger. we'll see you too, fuckers.

12" vinyl version of "the party is over". give us money.

shows

the sound of failure played our last show in philadelphia PA on january 8, 2005. thank you to all the people who came out, and helped us kill it, for that show and all the hundreds of shows before.

releases

the party is over cd | ed walters records / cheap art records | summer 2004 | $9.00 ppd
a total shitstorm of chaos and noise. a radio transmission from a battleship at the bottom of the sea. freight trains derailing, etc. recorded at skylight studios in the drug infested slum of fairless hills, PA by the fearless vincent ratti & the omniscient rachel minton. we paid for recording by washing vince's bentley and betting on illegal cock fighting & bare knuckle boxing.

split 7" with affirmative action jackson| dine alone records | summer 2004 | $3.50 ppd
more scary bullshit from the same session as "the party is over." two old songs pounded out at the end of a long, bleary recording session, and an ill-advised skwebald cover that would cause jeff nelson's hair to grow back if he ever had to hear it. also, it should be duly noted that in addition to being "Three Great Dudes," the wild men of AAJ are probably the best american hardcore band since Old Skull.

split 7" w/ the great clearing off (sea of steel #2) | ed walters records | fall 2002 | $3.50 ppd
two total gems on this one. recording took over 7 months, at a cost of nearly $680,000. by the time it was over colin was out of the band and the rest of us were divorced.

distress signal 7" | when humans attack! records | fall 2001 | $3.50 ppd
this is the kind of music people that grew up in the forest would make. four songs, three samples. mid-tempo pummeling mixed with chaotic bits of chaotic chaos. "cool hand luke" sample stolen back from guns n roses.

s/t cd | breathmint records | spring 2000 | sold out
this looks like a bad emo-pop record but is, in fact, a bad hardcore record. 9 songs in under 20 minutes...it's noisy and abrasive, and mixed in mono for god knows what reason... if you want to own this messy record, TOO BAD! it has become UNAVAILABLE.

"asshole" t-shirt | sizes yl-xl | $7.50 ppd
let me give you a word of advice: if you are a starving, third-rate, d.i.y. hardcore band about to go on tour with no money or no van, DO NOT EVER make about a million t-shirts that say "you are an asshole" on them. NOTE: size small currently unavailable.

"skulls" t-shirt | sizes yl-xl | $7.50 ppd
skulls are cool. but this is not a crusty-ass punk shirt. it has sleeves. it gets washed. you probably should, too, you filthy animal.
