Cordillera Organizations in Hongkong

The cordillerans are probably the most organized among the filipinos here in Hongkong with approximately 28-30 organizations. Over the years, organizations come and go, regroup or split. We have had the BIBAK in the early 80's which was later revamped and renamed BIMPKA. rival to this group was formed another group called the Cordilera Consultative committee (CCC) which for some years led the major cordi activites here such as the Cordi Day, Tribal Filipino Day and the Search for Ms. Ambassador to the Cordilleras. After 5 years, the CCC was dissolved and lately there is an attempt made by a group ( Cordillera Alliance) to coral the various cordi asso. in HKG.

The BFDWU is also trying to launch an alternative Union - a loose federation of cordi organizations which would unite all cordi organizations here in HKG.

Although the BIBAK/BIMPKA/CCC have either been dissolved or are inactive. Various Organizations remained active/ are active in the cordi scene and activities here in HKG. They are the Bontoc(Filipino) Domestic Workers Union (BFDWU), The only registered cordi Union and one of the 3 existing Filipino migrant Unions in HKG, Baguio Migrant Workers Group(BMWG),Kalinga Apayao Workers Association KAHWA ,Cordillera Men's Club (CMC) and the Cordillera Alliance(CORAL)

The cordillerans, wherever they are still bring with them their regionalism. Most organizations are therefore formed according to where members come from.
