Okay, Some of you might be wondering what this is all about....some of you might not. In any case, I'm going to tell you. Like some people on the intertnet, I'm a little peeved at the name "Misty Kasumi Waterflower". Why? Because people have begun to Beleive that this really is Misty's name. for those of you un-educated fans out there...it's not.Truth be known, Misty was never given a middle or Last name by 4Kids entertainment. She is Often Mistaken to have the last name "Waterflower" because of the episode entitled "The Water Flowers of Cerulean City." I belive this misconception was started by a fan who didn't understand the saying of Comparing Beautiful girls to Flowers. "Water Flowers" comes from that, with the word water added for the reason that they train water pokemon and they swim.
Her "middle name", Kasumi, comes from the Japanese Version of Pokemon, "Pocket Monsters" in which, this was her first name. Kasumi, coincidently, means "Mist". she was also never given a middle or lats name in japan.
This next thing really tends to make me upset. Somewhere along the line, people have started thinking that Misty is mearly a nick name, and that her real name is "Mistina." I think this surfaced because the name "Christy" is often short for "Christina". They substituted the "Chr" for "M" and came up with Misty's name being "Mistina". This, again, in not true. her name is plain old Misty. It's not short for anything, it's just Misty.
I hope this has educated some un-informed fans out there. I personally don't have a problem with giving Misty a last name for fan fics...but please, INFORM fans ahead of time that you are giving them a last name, and that it not their real name. thank you, and thus, ends my lesson.
