Salia
Salia's story is one of nobility, tragedy and destiny.  Like many leaders throughout galactic history, she was bred in the name of politics, her life carefully designed and structured without any consideration as to what sh might have wanted.  Salia's ultimate role was ordained from conception: she was to bring peace to her warring world.  Lieutenant Commander Data of the U.S.S. Enterprise described Salia's situation succinctly: "She was born on Daled IV.  Her parents were from opposite sides in a civil war which has lasted for centuries.  They both died shortly after her birth.  A Federation ship brought her and her governess to Klavidia III so that she could be raised in a neutral environment."  A barren, inhospitable planet, Klavdia III was Salia's bleak home for the first 16 years of her life.  Her only companion there was Anya, her faithful guardian, her learned teacher and her only friend.

In 2365, when Salia reached 16 years of age, the Enterprise was ordered to transport her from Klavdia III to Daled IV, where she would assume her leadership responsibilites.  But Captain Jean-Luc Picard had no idea that the beautiful youn girl and her aged companion were not what they appeared to be.  counselor Deanna Troi voiced the first suspicion when her empathic senses told her that, "Their emotions do not fit who they are and what they're doing."

Salia and Anya both were, in fact, allasomorphs.  As defined by the Galactic Zoological Catalogue, allasomorphs possess the power to alter their molecular structure into other lifeforms.  Salia was only wearing a humanoid form to accommodate her humanoid hosts.  Wesley Crusher helped discover this fact when he fell in love with Salia, and she with him.  Anya, being an over-zealous protector, morphed into a beast to chase Wesley away, so Salia into an equal beast to defend him.

Picard was alarmed by the power of his allasomorph guests, but he need not have been.  Salia's impeccable manners, gentle spirit and sweet dispostion proved that she would never misuse her shape-changing abilities.  She was merely a teenager whose life was just beginning.  She'd never been off Klavdia III before.  She'd never been in love before.  A whole universe of experiences suddenly lay spread like a banquet before her, but she had to accept the unhappy fact that the secrets and wonders of a "normal" life could never be hers.  She was bound for Daled IV, wheere she would most probably remain for the rest of her life, tangled up in the noble web of government.

No reports have since revealed whether Salia managed to bring her planet's civil war to an end.  However, she no doubt still savors the memory of Wesley, her first love, and the short taste of freedom she experienced aboard the Enterprise.
