Gone, but not forgotten... Some memorable characters that are no longer on the show.
Angel, Season 1
through 3 with crossover appearances in Season 4, 5, and 7- After three years
of loving and helping the slayer, Angel, realizing that Buffy will never have a
normal life with him in it, leaves town and moves to L.A.

Oz, Season 2 through 4 - Discovering that the wolf is in him all the time, Oz leaves Sunnydale to search for a way to control it. He returns only to find that Willow has moved on, and that she brings the wolf out in him.

Jenny Calander,
Season 1 and 2 with an appearance in Season 3 - In trying to atone for her
guilt about Angel, Jenny attempts to restore Angel's soul. She is killed by
Angellus before she gets the chance.

Joyce Summers, Season 1 through 5 with appearances in Season 6 and 7- Buffy's beloved mother - dies after surgery on a brain tumor.

Kendra, Season 2
- The Slayer chosen after Buffy dies by the hands of the Master. She is later
killed by Drusilla trying to help Buffy.

Faith, Season 3
with an appearances in Season 4 and 7- The Slayer chosen after Kendra is killed
by Drusilla. After an accidental murder of a human, Faith turns evil and is put
in a coma by Buffy. After she awoke, she attempted to steal Buffy's life and
failed. She was last seen in LA with Angel where she gave herself up to the
authorities.

Riley Finn, Season
4 and 5 with an appearance in Season 6 - Buffy's commando boyfriend. Riley,
feeling that Buffy did not need him, left Sunnydale on a demon hunting mission
in the jungles of South America. He later returned to Sunnydale briefly with
his wife Sam.

Tara, Season 4
through 6 - Willow's love of almost three years died after being hit by a stray
bullet intended for Buffy.

Rupert Giles,
Season 1 through 6 with appearances in 7 - Buffy's watcher and father figure
leaves Sunnydale after Buffy's death to return to his home land of England. He
returns on hearing the news that Buffy is alive only to leave again in the
hopes that his slayer will learn to stand on her own.

Cordelia
Chase, Season 1 through 3 - The spoiled and unexpected member of the Scoobies,
left Sunnydale after graduation and moved to LA where she joined forces with
Angel.

Wesley, Season 3
- The watcher assigned to Buffy after Giles is fired. When the Council refuses
to help Buffy cure Angel, Buffy quits the council and tells Wesley to go home.
He stays to help fight the ascension and then moves on to LA, as did Cordelia,
and also joins forces with Angel.

Drusilla,
Season 2 with an appearances in Season 5 and 7- Spike's sire and love for a
century, leaves town with Spike and moves to South America. Feeling that Spike
is "covered" with the Slayer, she ends things with Spike leaving him
heartbroken. Drusilla later returns to Sunnydale to bring Spike back into the
fold, only to find that he is in love with Buffy.

Harmony,
appearances in Season 1 through 5 - Spoiled and not too bright, Harmony is
changed into a vampire during the ascension. She later hooks up with Spike but
then leaves him due to his mistreatment of her and his involvement with Dru and
Buffy.
