Background: Ro Laren was raised mainly in camps run by the Cardassian occupiers of her home planet, Bajor. Eventually she escaped to join Starfleet and successfully came through Starfleet Academy. However once she actually began her Starfleet career she received many reprimands for her argumentative nature and was even court-martialed for disobeying orders and imprisoned for a while. She eventually joined the Enterprise, where she began to work to the best of her abilities and also made friends among the staff. Despite this, when ordered to infiltrate the Maquis Freedom Fighters, she eventually elected to leave Starfleet and remain with them, sacrificing a promising career for her ideals.
