Background: Moya is a Leviathan, a living spaceship, symbiotically joined to a Pilot. The PeaceKeepers enslave her kind for use as prison transports, but Moya, with the help of her rebellious crew, was able to break free and exist on the lam. The PeaceKeepers had been planning to use Moya to see if a hybrid Leviathan/Warship could be conceived, but the scientist Velorek blocked their efforts. When D’Argo broke Velorek’s barrier, Moya became pregnant. Nearly a difficult cycle later, she gave violent birth to Talyn, a hybrid exactly like the PeaceKeepers had wanted. Her son was stolen by rogue Captain Crais, and Moya had to accept that her child would be raised a warrior for her worst enemy. Moya served her crew dutifully, the perfect escape vehicle with her ability to StarBurst randomly through space. Unfortunately, as the ship of a refugee crew, Moya frequently bore the brunt of any attacking enemy's weapons and once even had to be set on fire to
eradicate a horde of destructive parasites sicced upon her. Despite a desperate and justified fear of wormholes, she helped John continue his search for Earth and even traveled through a few. Regrettably, Talyn and Crais sacrificed themselves to destroy a
PeaceKeeper Command Carrier and keep wormhole knowledge out of their enemies’ hands, and Moya witnessed the death of her only child. She and Pilot finally decided they were tired of the conflicting views of their crew and asked that a captain be named
so they could have some direction in their lives. She continues to serve her crew protectively, loyally, and with her life, even following them all the way to Earth, and is as much a hero as any individual who rides aboard her.
