Background: Hermione, the daughter of two dentists, knew nothing of the magical world until she got her acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but by her immediate grasp of spells and extensive knowledge of the magical world, she soon marked herself out as a witch to watch.
Hermione at first found it difficult to make friends at Hogwarts, where her peers found her bossy and a know-it-all, but she soon became friends with Ron Weasley and Harry Potter, and the three have come through all sorts of difficult situations together.
As well as her encyclopaedic knowledge of spells, Hermione has the ability to keep a cool head and think a situation through, a quality that has saved her and her friends on more than one occasion.
She is also kind-hearted and unselfish, helping Ron and Harry with their homework even when she knows she shouldn’t, buying her cat, Crookshanks, because nobody else wanted him, and fighting for the rights of house-elves.
