Candidate Archaezoa & Euglenozoa

Several protists lacking mitochondria led to the

lineages of these organisms diverged before the

endosymbiotic event that gave rise to mitochondria

Kingdom Archaezoa-Protists that lack mitochondria

Subgroup: Diplomonads-have flagella, 2 separate

nuclei, no mitochondria, no plastids, & a simple

cytoskeleton.

Flagellates-Protists w/ flagella

Groups:

Euglenoids-anterior pocket/chamber, from 1/2 flagella

emerge

-Many are mixotrophic/heterotrophic,absorbing organic

molecules from their surroundings/engulfing prey by

phagocytosis

Kinetoplastids-single lrg mitochondrion associated w/

unique organelle(kinetoplast)

-Has kinetoplast(houses extranuclear DNA)

-Are symbiotic

-Some pathogenic to host
