Political Parties of the Weirdo Zone

While usually unintended, political parties and the party system are usually natural results of a free republican society.  Unlike the parties in earlier eras, however, major political parties of the fourth millenium are usually loose bands of people who agree on certain issues and work together to convince others that their views are correct.  As fund-raising is no longer a concern due to the construction of the Weirdo Zone economy, the only other corrupting influence is power, which is held in check by the very nature of a coalition government.

MAJOR PARTIES

The Weirdoist Party (Weirdoists, W) - The plurality of the Weirdo Zone, about 40% legislature. Most varied constituency, with equal shares of nearly all member species and worlds. Patriotic party, usually considered the average--the whatever works party. Currently supports maintaining high levels of military and exploratory spending. Uses the partisan support of other parties to get its legislation passed.

The People's Socialist Equality Party (Socialists, S) - To the left of the Weirdoists, it holds about 20% legislature, mostly consisting of newer races to the Weirdo Zone. Socialists want less military spending,  prefer to take a defensive stance in war, and always pushes for greater spending in public programs.

The Reformed Business Party (Capitalists, Businessists, B) - To the far right of the Weirdoists, it holds about 10% legislature, mostly made up of business leaders. Capitalists want less economic controls on business, military contracts to be completely commercial in nature, and TME Industries disincorporated.

The Grand Old Communist Party (Communists, C) - The radical faction, it holds about 10% of legislature. Communists want all business to be controlled and operated by the government.  Common Communist demands are full military output and the conquest of both the RBC and the Thaurian Concordat.  They have a "manifest destiny" vision of the WZ's role in the Universe.

MINOR PARTIES

The United Evangelical Theocratic Party of the Multiplistic Truth and the Very Important One (Theocrats, T) - Sort of a strange religious Supreme Emperor cult. The Theocrats are happy to give the Supreme Emperor "divine right" through the distilled religious power of billions of faithful voters.  It consists of core fundimentalists and apologists of many varied religions.  Most Theocrat delegates are also on the council of the True Faith Church.

The Grand Old Democratic Party of the Republic (Demorepublicans, DR) - The creaking remains of the old Democratic and Republican parties of Earth's United States of America, usually made of a handful of cranky old isolationist Humans. Coincidentally, one is named Strom. Smallest party but biggest joke.

The Rock Party (Rockers, R) - Made up of the newest members of the Weirdo Zone, especially those with a Medieval or lesser technological history. Considered a sort of "training party" for culture-shocked societies until they can take a stand with another party. Despite the punnish nature of the name, the rest of the Legislature takes the rock symbol for solidarity seriously and refrains from making it an analogy of the members' lack of technological capability.

SYMBOL: A mountain.

The Dissident Party (Anarchists, A) - Made up of people who dissent just for the thrill of it. They believe in nothing, but just vote against everything.   It's very rare to have more than one Anarchist delegate in the entire Legislature during any given year.

?
SYMBOL: None, they can't agree on one.
