GARVEN "DAVE" DREIS

Called 'Boss' and 'Chief' by his pilots, Garven "Dave" Dreis was an Alliance X-wing pilot serving at the Dantooine Rebel base before volunteering for service as the leader of Red Squadron during the Battle of Yavin. He was the only pilot other than Luke Skywalker to attempt a shot at destroying the Death Star but his shot deflected on the surface missing the thermal exhaust port. Darth Vader shot him down right after he ordered Luke, Biggs and Wedge to begin their own attack run.

Before the battle Dreis mentioned to Luke that as a boy he had met Anakin Skywalker and was very impressed with his skills as a pilot.
