The land angler is a large brown lizard with tough, leathery skin. It hunts by burrowing into the ground, leaving only the tip of its long tongue exposed. The tip of its tongue is football shaped and sized, and looks and smells like a piece of fresh meat covered with honey.

Combat: When a creature touches the tip of its tongue, the angler whips the tongue back into its mouth and swallows small creatures whole. For creatures gnome sized and up, they become stuck to the tongue and must make a strength check modified by a +2 penalty to unstick themselves. The tongue can be slashed through, it is AC 2 and has 12 hp. The angler gets a +4 to hit bonus against victims stuck to its tongue.

Habitat/Society: Each angler has its own hunting territory and will fight other anglers and other large predators to protect it. However, if a creature or adventurer is just passing through and spends no more than a day in its territory the angler is content to ignore them. (unless of course they touch its tongue) After slaying an adventurer the angler buries any shiny, metal things in its burrow. Anglers change their burrow every few days.

Ecology: The land angler prefers prey sized small and smaller. Their tongues remain sticky for 3 days after death.
