One of the greatest Jedi Masters, Yoda is one of the few Jedi who escaped the Emperor's attempts to wipe them out.
The oldest member of the Jedi Council, Yoda once visited hundreds of worlds and learned a great many things about the various cultures he encountered. He is cautious, almost to a fault. He was personally interested in the works of "reckless" Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, but opposed allowing the slave boy Anakin Skywalker to become a Jedi. Despite Yoda's protests, Anakin was trained.
Years after Anakin turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, Yoda was found in the murky swamps of Dagobah, living as a hermit. At the proddings of ghostly Obi-Wan, he began to teach young Luke Skywalker to become a Jedi, but was unable to complete the training when Luke left.
Luke returned not long after to find Yoda dying. The ancient Jedi Master revealed that there was another Skywalker before becoming one with the Force. Later, Luke saw Yoda's ghostly form standing with the spirits of Anakin and Obi-Wan.
