Long ago, he rescued the baby Depa Billaba and recognized her Force-sensitivity. He was not so open to accepting Anakin Skywalker as a Jedi, sensing that the young slave boy might be very dangerous. Despite his friendship with Qui-Gon Jinn, who found and brought the boy to Coruscant, Windu did not wish for Anakin to be trained.
