A planned mission to Mars is cancelled, as the Taelons and the governments allied to them believe it "unnecessary." Da'an offers Captain Paul Chandler a position in a Taelon program, for interdimensional flight training, but Chandler rejects him immediately.
Chandler reappears on a fitness course later, as Boone and Lili are jogging. Lili greets her old colleague warmly, as they were once friends (but not more, apparently) during flight training. Chandler informs Lili of Da'an's offer concerning ID pilots, and Lili agrees to take him on a ride in it. She shows off the capabilities of the shuttle to an impressed Chandler.
The next day, the shuttle is stolen and Lili is criticized for having allowed him access. Angered, she is determined to find him and the shuttle. Da'an desperately wants the shuttle returned, but does not specify why it is so urgent.
Boone and Lili track Chandler to a place where they are attempting to launch with it, unsuccessfully. After Augur overcomes a Taelon programming block, the shuttle launches for Mars — and a secret base on the dark side of Earth's moon is revealed.
Doors wants Chandler as part of the Resistance, but Lili is still sore from his betrayal. She says that she could never trust him again....
