HISTORY: A scared and abused child who grew up to be one of the world's most cold-blooded killers, Victor Creed is a man of many contradictions. Considered an abomination by his religious parents, Victor was abused both physically and mentally throughout his childhood, spending much of it chained in the basement of his father's cabin and having his pointed canine teeth and long talons repeatedly pulled out in an attempt to 'cure' him of his mutation. Victor finally escaped, but the damage had been done. Victor had achieved a lifelong bloodlust that would carry him for the rest of his days. Victor was an operative on the CIA's Team X, along with the mutants David North and Logan, also known as Maverick and Wolverine. Also on the team was the human agent Silver Fox, whom Victor developed an intense hatred of almost immediately. Quickly gaining a reputation as a bloodthirsty and merciless operative, Victor took the code name Sabretooth. Things never went smoothly for him on Team X, and he quickly cemented a violent rivalry with Wolverine, who had powers similar to his own and was the only one who could hold her own against Victor in a fight. After an operation in Berlin went bad, Sabretooth took out his rage on Logan and Silver Fox, who had become a couple. Silver Fox was killed, and Logan and Victor became sworn enemies. When the ultra-secret super soldier program Weapon X came calling, Victor was more than ready to submit to the procedure that would make him an unstoppable killing machine. He was also reunited with his old Team X companion Wolverine, who was first in line for the procedure, although not by choice. Logan's bones were bonded with the unbreakable alloy adamantium, but in the process Logan escaped and destroyed the Weapon X lab, depriving Sabretooth of his chance to become more powerful. Already bitterly hating the mutant woman, Victor joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and went up against Logan many more times fighting against the X-Women. Victor left the Brotherhood and became a freelance assassin, quickly the most sought-after in the world. He amassed a large fortune and stunned the X-Women and those who knew him by proving that he had both the brains and the stomach to become one of the most feared mutants on the planet. A short time later, Victor was captured by the U.S. government and placed in the mutant team X-Factor as a sleeper agent. Victor was forced to wear a restraining collar that would administer a powerful shock if he became violent towards another member. He soon succeeded in shedding the restraint with the help of his old lover Mystique, and both of them escaped the team, mortally wounding several willing members of X-Factor in the process. Victor was captured by the X-Women, and Cyclops sought to turn him into one of the team, but Wolverine and Victor's mutual mistrust ended in a battle where Wolverine shoved one of her unbreakable adamantium claws through Sabretooth's brain, effectively lobotomizing him. Sabretooth survived and even became docile for a short time, but soon he was back to his old self and escaped the Xavier Institute. When the alien weapon the Atom Cell came to earth, it's second target was Victor, who transformed into the villain Purgatory. Purgatory was defeated by the X-Women and Victor captured. He allied himself with the team for a short time to fight the alien entity Cosmic. During this time Cosmic sent Wolverine, Icegirl and Victor back in time to an alternate reality, where Logan was able to see the truth about Silver Fox's death. It was suicide, not murder, and Victor and Logan reconciled to a large degree. Later, Victor was up to his old tricks and informed Logan that he was in fact her half-brother from her true past.
