Between Worlds- Teaser

And here is the world first, EXCLUSIVE trailer for the first installment of the Tale of Cailin Peredhel...

Between Worlds

Elrond’s council was something I had always thought sounded cool. I was so horribly wrong. I had seen all this before. Read it too. And the footnotes. And compared notes on the Internet. It had dawned on me that I couldn’t change this council at all, or else I could quite easily destroy the world. If that happened, I would die too, right? So I had to leave this as exactly the same. So I was now very, very bored.

The only new part was… well, me. Elrond had a hard job convincing them who I was, especially the dwarves. It was when I started to speak for myself, using my own modern version of English as opposed to their Common Tongue that they believed, at any rate, I wasn’t from Middle-Earth.

It was plain weird meeting the Fellowship. Legolas I already knew. The Hobbits I took an instant like to. They all seemed just as lost as me about this whole thing, especially Merry and Pippin. Gimli was very proud, but obviously had a stout heart. Gandalf I was too in awe of to even look at, although he seemed kindly enough. Boromir too, seemed like a good man, even if he did eye me up once or twice. I liked the tunic thing. It flattens the stomach, yet improves cleavage. Add a bra, and it would be great for a night out- and, luckily, I had my bra. Go me. It was a shame about the lack of nightlife in Rivendell.

Aragorn… is Aragorn. I know all about him already, as I do them all, but he was a lot quieter than I expected. But he gave off an air, you know? Of kingship. He was meant for it. Well, obviously, but still… I wasn’t letting on to anyone how far ahead I can ‘See’. All I said was that I get little flashes of inspiration now and then, and they accepted this. Which was probably a good thing, right? Because if I revealed too much, then I’d do a Star Trek and mess up the timeline and the universe will implode. Or something like that.

Right there, in front of the council, Elrond requested that I should go. My mouth dropped open. “I… er… what?”

“I cannot force you to go with the Fellowship, nor do I place any pledge on you to follow,” he said in a tired voice. “But my heart tells me that you will be needed. Will you not go?”

I shook my head vehemently. “No. The Fellowship is meant to consist of nine people, not ten. Who would I replace? They all have a reason to go, but I don’t. Besides, I don’t have the necessary survival skills or anything!”

“Neither does Frodo,” gently pointed out Elrond. In desperation I looked around at the assorted people around me for any support. No one met my eyes, until Legolas looked up at straight at me.

He was staring at me intently, but at my face, and not my body. Then he smiled when he caught my eye. “I’ll go,” I said instantly on the arrival of the smile. And that was sorted. The Fellowship of Ten. Cliché, but real this time. And I still had no bloody way to get home.

Colleen's life was pretty ordinary, at least until she wound up on Middle-Earth. Now, the daughter of men but mother of elves must make a choice between the world she knows and the world she has come to love... Between Worlds, out first on Hathor's Empire this summer.
