Picturesque XXIV

Life is fleeting, short, and enjoys jamming numerous problems into a week. I thought I would find respite this past weekend at my dad’s, online, role-playing and chatting with my friends; no.
Saturday morning my mom calls; Duke had a seizure. The decibel of my voice echoes my disbelief. Duke, my Beagle pup of six years, had a seizure just before he was going to have a bath at some grooming parlor. She says it lasted for a minute, and she took him to his vet directly afterwards.
To add insult to injury Duke has infections in both ears along with conjunctivitis. Either epilepsy or a brain tumor could have caused his seizure; he may need an MRI to determine exactly what it is. As they are costly for humans, it is just as bad for animals.
I am able to return home to see how Duke is doing after a movie-run with my father and brother; I am quite thankful for my father agreeing to do such, for usually he does not. Duke seems fine, acting as he has always behaved. When I officially return home there is a message from Duke’s veterinarian: he says the tests they did on Duke show fairly normal signs; however, his phosphorous level is low. I have no clue what this means. But he says nothing of an MRI, that money-guzzling scan, so my spirits are uplifted, if slightly.
But Duke’s seizure has opened my eyes; at least, I hope it has. Life is short, so short, to let it waste away. Every moment must be enjoyed, for soon it will be lost forever.
