Benton started backing away, a slight look of fear crossing his features, “Miss Grant...what-?”
“Now, Sergeant, there’s no need to be afraid; I don’t bite....” They were on the patrolling grounds near UNIT Headquarters. Benton had left his post, being slowly pursued by Jo Grant. He continued backing away. She continued to follow.
“But, Miss Grant, Captain Yates-”
“What about Captain Yates?”
“If he sees that I’m away from my post....” Benton glanced nervously about, knowing that Yates was probably somewhere on the roof of the nearby headquarters building. He couldn’t see him at the moment.
“You shouldn’t worry about him, Benton,” Jo smiled playfully. “Stop acting like you’re afraid of me!”
“I’m not afraid of you, Miss,” Benton said, rather unconvincingly.
“Really? Good.” With that, and without warning, she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply on the lips.
Benton gave up trying to run away. His rifle’s shoulder strap slipped down to his lower arm. Benton was in disbelief as he began to respond to her kiss. Certainly, he’d always day-dreamed about Jo Grant, but never in a million years would he have thought that she....

High above on the roof, Captain Mike Yates patrolled along the edge, coming into view of Sergeant Benton’s post. Strange, he wasn’t there. Ah yes, there he was....
Yates stared at Benton and Jo Grant, who were involved in a very deep kiss. His eyes bulged from their sockets, his jaw working in frustration. Inwardly, he screamed.

Jo broke away, smiling again at Benton, “Thank you very much, Mr. Benton.” After a sly glance up to the roof, the smile widened, “Thank you very much indeed.” She sauntered off then, leaving Benton staring after her, gaping in disbelief, his rifle still limp at his side.

Yates watched as Jo strolled off until she
was out of his vision, then returned his gaze to Benton, who seemed both
awestruck and confused. Yates’s jaw hardened, his eyes turning cold.
